Getting Some Satoshis

Chances are that you have probably heard of cryptocurrencies. You may even be curious enough to get some but have no idea where to start.

How Many Different Ones Are There?

As of April 22, 2020, there is a reported 5,392 different cryptocurrencies with a total market cap of $201 billion. So what do I have to do to get my hands on some of these? There are a few different ways this can be done.

Buy From An Exchange

One of the more popular ways to get cryptocurrencies is to buy them from an exchange. Popular exchanges like Coinbase and Gemini let you connect your bank account and buy directly. Although they don’t offer all the cryptocurrencies, they do offer some of the top ones that you can then use to purchase other less popular ones from other exchanges.

Faucets

Just like the faucet on your sink that pours out water, these faucets pour out small amounts of cryptocurrency every few minutes that you can claim for yourself just for visiting the site or using their app. Usually, these rewards are in the form of Bitcoin and are given out after you complete specific tasks like watching videos or playing games on the platform. You won’t get rich playing on these sites as the rewards are very small but it is a fun way to collect a few satoshis. Some of the more popular ones are:

  • BitFun- Gives out small amounts of Bitcoin every 3 minutes. They offer games like Cut The Rope, King Of Thieves, Tentrix, Fun Dice, and more.
  • SatoshiLabs- Not to be confused with the original Satoshi Labs is a faucet that gives rewards every 5 minutes. Complete surveys, simple tasks, or visit shortlinks to earn these rewards.
  • BitcoinAliens- You can play directly from your Brave Browser or download their apps. They give away not only Bitcoin, but Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash are also options.
  • Moon Bitcoin- One of the longest-running faucets. Launched in 2015, this site lets you collect Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and a few others. This site is unique because it allows you to decide how often you would like to claim your rewards. Most faucets only let you claim at certain intervals.
  • Blockchain Poker- If you like Texas Holdem, you will love this site. They offer a no-limit, single-table Texas Holdem game that lets you play for real bitcoins. New sign-ups receive free satoshis so you can start playing right away.

The faucet sites listed above are just the tip of the iceberg as there are hundreds to choose from.

Brave Browser

You can earn Basic Attention Coin (BAT) just for downloading and using the Brave internet browser. The Brave Browser has ad-blockers and lets you browse anonymously. Although relatively young, it has become one of the most popular browsers available and is a great way to easily collect cryptocurrencies.

Buy From A Friend Or Trusted Person

If you want your purchase to be anonymous, buying from a friend or trusted person is the best way to do it. Simply set up a crypto wallet and give the wallet address to the person whom you are buying the cryptocurrency from. Most of these transactions are done face to face. You can also find people selling cryptocurrencies on sites like Bisq that match you up with sellers in your area or you can set up a smart contract with them where the funds are held in escrow until the transaction parameters are met.

Portfolio

Collecting different cryptocurrencies is a great way to expand your portfolio. You never know when the one you are holding will go to the moon and with the faucets, you can have fun while collecting free money.
