Trezor Hardware Wallet

Hardware wallets by virtue are some of the most secure wallets you can use to store your Bitcoin. Launched in 2014 by Satoshi Labs, the Trezor One followed by the Model T hardware wallet was the first of its kind, offering secure cold storage with the convenience of being able to spend like a hot wallet. Trezor is still one of the most popular hardware wallets available. Rated second overall with a well known reputation for security, this wallet continues to stand out as one of the best.

The Trezor was voted to have the best security in place that will protect you from both physical and virtual theft. Your entire wallet is backed up with a 24-word passphrase generated offline between your desktop and the device for your recovery seed and a PIN is required every time you access the device. The recovery seed needs to written down and stored in a safe and private place and the PIN should be memorized. The Trezor also leaves you in full control of your private keys because they are never stored online. If your device is stolen or damaged and you need to access your accounts, recovery can be done with a new Trezor or it can be done through other wallets like Electrum or Mycelium and to avoid phishing attacks, confirmation on the device is required for every transaction. You can’t deny that Trezor has made security their main focal point.

Having the convenience to store multiple types of coins in one place adds to Trezor’s popularity. The original Trezor One only supported Bitcoin plus six other cryptocurrencies, but the newer Trezor Model T supports more than 1,000 different coins which is a nice option if you are the type of person that likes to have a well-diversified portfolio.

Setup And Use

The setup is easy using a combination of both the Trezor’s screen and the computer. Once the private “bridge” is installed, a PIN code will be used to identify you as the actual owner each time you plug it into your computer. The device is compatible with both computers and smartphones. Operating systems include:

  • Windows 10
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Android

Not only can you access your Trezor from your web browser, but you can link it to other wallets and services like Exodus, Electrum, and more. Once linked, you can easily transfer funds from one to the other.

Hardware wallets are great to have for security reasons and most of them including the Trezor One and Model T is easy to use. According to nearly all reviews published, it looks like the Trezor is your best choice for security found in hardware wallets. But like anything, you need to research and fully understand how they work so you don’t accidentally lose your crypto.
